Columbus Street Banner Program to Honor Hometown Heroes Who Served
Uptown Columbus has created a street banner program called “Veterans on Veterans”. This program is designed to recognize and honor Veterans from the region, who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces- Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, National Guard, and Reserve units with courage and compassion. This program will install banners with a photo along Veterans Parkway from Victory Drive to 13th Street.
Once a veteran is selected into the program, the banner will hang for one year. New banners will be installed and displayed as a group for the first time around Veterans Day weekend each year. The banners will hang until October of the following year, when new veterans can be honored. At the end of the term, the banner will be given to the family or banner sponsor.
Available space is determined on a first-come, first-served basis among qualified applicants. All banner locations shall be determined solely by Uptown Columbus. A banner applicant or sponsor cannot select a specific location. Space is limited.
Eligibility Requirements:
Prior service in any branch of the US Armed Forces, Reserve Components, or National Guard.
Service member must be retired or an honorably discharged veteran. The veteran to be honored on a banner may be living or deceased.
Service member must have lived in Muscogee County, Georgia, and/or Lee or Russell County, Alabama. This can include living on post at Fort Moore.
Steps to Apply:
Complete the application form below
Submit a clear photograph of the veteran in uniform. A high resolution JPG or PNG digital image (600 dpi or greater preferred). A high resolution 5” x 7” or larger portrait style photo will be accepted in lieu of a digital image.
Provide honorable discharge or retirement papers (with SSN redacted) or other proof of service.
$150 fee in the form of cash, check, or money order. Checks should be made out to Uptown Columbus, Inc.

Banner Size & Display
The patriotic banners will be 24” wide x 50” long. They will be printed on vinyl and double sided. Displayed on the banner will be the following: Veteran’s official service picture, rank, full name, and branch of the military.
The Columbus Veterans on Veterans street banner program is a community-building program project by Uptown Columbus, Inc. Georgia Power Company and the City of Columbus are also collaborating on the initiative. The program is also made possible by a grant from the Elizabeth Fry and Dupont Kirven Foundation, Inc.
